Internet Takes Over
I think people are deciding to stay home because it is a lot less time consuming and you can basically do anything you need to do right from your computer. People have busy lives as it is that having the internet is a helpful resource. Example: If a stay at home mom is busy with her children and she has errands to run but she doesn't want to bring the kids with, chances are most of her errands can be done online such as grocery shopping, paying bills and buying necessities for the house.

Planet Earth
On the cover, Mary sees a woman modeling the hot summer fashions that are going to be seen this summer. She can also see the color choice which is purple, green and yellow showing that it is going to be a summery ad She can also see there is an ad for guys vs girls and an ad for sunny styles. She is probably getting familiar with the fact that is is a more feminine magazine, it is hot out around here and we are changing up our style of clothing.
A majority of the articles discuss what girls and some guys are going to be wearing this summer to give readers and idea on what the new trends are. It suggests to Mary that a new season is around the corner and it is aiming towards women more so then men.
The people are very glamorous, wearing nice new clothing and they are very clear skinned. They are wearing lighter clothing instead of dark. Mary would learn that they are wearing these clothes because of the hot sunny days coming up, the women look very beautiful and everyone looks pretty much the same, skinny, nice clothing and a clear face.
They need to look skinny and dressed in nice clothing like the ones in the ad. Mary would be very surprised because she is going to see people wearing clothes a lot cheaper then ones advertised in the ads, pimples, moles and oily faces as well as not so skinny people.
Americans desire clothing, makeup, shoes, jewelry and their hair more then anything else. She will also see that they care more about their looks then anything else and there will be one or two articles with an important issue but for the most part, it is fashion, fashion and more fashion!
Feminine is wearing makeup, being skinny and wearing cute clothes like a dress or a skirt. Being masculine means having some muscle, being real tough and wearing pants. Women are skinny whereas men are bigger due to their huge muscles.
Making Americans happy in this magazine means getting a whole new wardrobe, getting new hairstyles and shopping. It also makes them happy because of their sizes and their facial features.
I think Mary would venture around too see if everyone is really like that or if it is just people in the magazine or what. I think she would be curious to see if anything else is out there or is that would be it.

Women Portrayal
Desperate Housewives started in 2004 and is now starting season six this fall. Seeing the previews when I was in 8th grade, made me want to watch the show because it seemed like the “real world.” I, being a 14 year old girl, was not supposed to be part of the target audience but let me tell you, teenagers have become part of the target audience along with men as early as their 20’s. When the show came out, it was directed towards Women in their thirties and forties. Not long after the show came out men ages twenty on up as well as teenage girls ages thirteen on up have become the target audience.
The cast of this very dramatic yet entertaining prime time show includes five women and four men in their late thirties early forties. They are all good looking and healthy, slimmer characters. Gabby who is an ex-model is a married to Carlos, a rough business man. Susan is a divorced mother with one teenage daughter; Susan also dates and marries Mike the mysterious new neighbor. Lynette is a former businesswoman and stay-at-home mother of four. Lynette is married to Tom who quits his job to be stay-at-home dads in hopes of letting Lynette go back to work. Bree Van De Kamp seems to be the perfect mother of two is struggling to save her marriage with Rex who later dies and Bree marries Orson. The last character is a single pot-stirring Edie Britt. The women aren’t in minorities in the show but throughout the seasons, homosexual men do come into play as some neighbors who are moving in the neighborhood.
Obviously, there are a lot of main characters in this story line but I think the leading role is held by women because they all get along and hang out while the men go off and do their own thing. The show is supposed to be based around the women. They are all dressed fairly “normal.” The women are usually wearing work attire, scrubs, the weekend jeans and shirt or a cute little sun dress. Every week the women are portrayed because they show the women doing what women in actually life are doing. You have Gabby who has an affair and is always shopping, Lynette who is the stay at home mom as well as Bree. Susan is trying to work and hook up with Mike and Edie is trying to get all the women’s left over’s when they break up or “divorce.” Overall I think the show accurately portrays women because they are just demonstrating on what women now-a-days are up to when the husbands are out working and how full of gossip women are.

Ad Deconstruction
Going through middle school getting my first phone, to high school. I have broken so many cell phones. I have also spent hundreds of dollars paying to overages on the bills due to playing games. I have always liked mac computers and when I found out about the iphone, I just had to have it. I told my mom "It's so durable, it wont break." I also told her, "Now I wont have to waste money on games, they come with the iphone!"
Seeing this ad, made me want that phone so bad, what I didn't realize was that there was a catch. What I can tell you now is that it really isn't durable, I broke 3 of them! There is also a catch with the whole application and game scenario. When you go to buy the iphone, you have to buy a data plan for an additional thirty dollars a month, which is not advertised on TV!
REPETITION: The phrase, "With the iphones new apps..." is said several times in one commercial, and it is also said in every other commercial about iphones.BRIBERY: If you buy this phone, look at all the cool apps you get to use.
ASSOCIATION: Teenagers are going to be amazed by this phone that has "everything."
